Battery audit of the home screen (measured on the emulator):
- idle between minute ticks: 0 frames, ~10 ms CPU per 45 s
- behind other apps: ~30 ms CPU per 90 s, no wake locks, alarms or jobs
Found and fixed duplicated work while home is visible:
- three TIME_TICK receivers (glance, backdrop, sun path) → one shared
minute ticker
- three weather observers, each with its own check loop → one shared loop
- the calendar provider was queried every minute → now only when the
calendar changes or the date rolls over; minute ticks re-read the day
from memory
Shared flows use WhileSubscribed(5 s), so all of it stops when home is
out of view.
A calm, single-list Android home screen: clock, weather, next alarm and next event up top,
then your widgets and favorites, then every app A–Z with a letter bar to jump through them.
