Summary

Task discovery currently emits 1.41 MB for Home IT's 463 tasks; even an open/self/20 filter emits 117 KB. This design proposes an explicit bounded path while preserving existing machine JSON.

This PR contains the proposal only. HOMEIT-472 expressly reserves implementation/default-contract approval. It compares interfaces, specifies access/count/cursor semantics, selected-text paging, built-in guidance, acceptance across Claude Code/Codex/Pi, and the cumulative production-code budget. It does not apply HOMEIT-456's cancelled paging draft or change PR102.

Evidence

  • Before: Read-only live CLI measurements: 463 tasks/367 closed/1,414,945 bytes; filtered 20 tasks/117,048 bytes; largest description 52,951 bytes. Deployment v0.57.2 ready 1/1.
  • Proposed sizing: Offline model: live summaries at most 7,842 bytes/page; 500-task escaping/Unicode fixture at most 7,952; selected long text reconstructed exactly. Model/script attached to the task. This is sizing evidence, not server/CLI/runtime acceptance.
  • Prettier and diff whitespace checks pass. Exact-head PR pipeline 729 and push pipeline 730 are SUCCESS at 12a2304795; all eight Forgejo statuses passed. Quality: 1,084 passed, two skipped. Docs, deployment tooling and both image builds passed. No production code changed; no new runtime acceptance claimed.
